Jerry Jones made a cameo appearance in the ninth episode of Landman, playing none other than himself. And I’ll be damned if the Dallas Cowboys owner didn’t knock it out of the park.

Jones delivered a powerful monologue about integrating family into business, which resonated with the show’s themes.

His speech highlighted the importance of balancing work and family life, a central narrative in Landman, especially for its main character, Tommy Norris, played by Emmy Award-nominated actor Billy Bob Thornton.

While his appearance may have been helped by the fact that it was a speech about his own family life, viewers almost universally agreed – His acting was great.

“I made my mind up a long time ago I was going to work with my kids,” Jones says in the scene. “And they’re involved in everything. They’re involved in my leasing, oil and gas, real estate. And so when I got the Cowboys, I got it so that we could all work together.”

“I thought I was doing it for them, but the one that got the most out of it was me.”

Jerry Jones Shines In Landman

Jerry Jones’ cameo in Landman was poignant, especially given the context of the episode where Monty Miller’s character (played by Jon Hamm) dies without his family.

Jones’ speech was to Miller as he lied in a hospital bed.

It wasn’t stiff. It wasn’t simply a man reading his lines in a robotic fashion, as so many sports cameos tend to be. It was heartfelt. It included dramatic pauses, not to mention the Cowboys owner getting misty-eyed as he spoke.

Get that man an Emmy.

Jones’ real-life connection to Texas, oil, and football made his appearance particularly fitting for the series. Overall, his cameo added depth to the storyline, emphasizing the personal over the professional.

Social media was on fire after the performance, with a vast majority of viewers shocked at what Jones was able to pull off.

“Jerry Jones, being a decent actor, was not on my bingo card,” one person admitted on X.

Another observed, “His cameo was random, and I eye rolled first seeing him, but he definitely shocked me with how good of an actor he was.”

I mean, it wasn’t random at all. The show is about oil rigs, and Jones’ wealth was accumulated after beginning an oil and gas exploration business in Arkansas.

“Jerry Jones with some serious acting chops 👀,” another viewer wrote. “Really spoke from the heart in this monologue from the show Landman.”

His Paternity Case Just Concluded

The cynic in me would be remiss if I didn’t mention the fact that Jerry Jones talking about the meaning of family in Landman comes just months after he was involved in a paternity case involving 27-year-old Alexandra Davis.

Davis contended that Jones is her biological father, an issue prompting a countersuit from Jones and a legal battle that stretched nearly two and a half years.

“It was resolved. It was unfortunate.” Jones said, according to a reporter for the Star-Telegram, after the case was amicably decided. “It was sensitive to me and my family… It was resolved. I certainly am where I want to be.”

Guess only some of his kids are involved in the family business. Allegedly.

After watching the Cowboys finish 7-10, grinding their way through a dismal season, fans are probably hoping Jones catches the acting bug, sells the team, and moves out to Hollywood.
