Chicago Bulls legend Derrick Rose hilariously begged his former team not to honor him with a statue following the debacle of the Dwyane Wade sculpture.
Rose, who will have his jersey retired by the Bulls next season, said in an ESPN interview that he did not want the franchise to do what the Heat did to Wade.
“The statues, the way people been creating the statues, no, I do not want no statue,” Rose told ESPN.
“No statue. Jerry [Reinsdorf], no statue. Please, Michael [Reinsdorf], no statue,” he added, referencing the team’s owner and president.
“I would love that.”

Derrick Rose: No Statue, For The Love Of God
Derrick Rose’s comments didn’t directly respond to what happened with Dwyane Wade’s statue outside Kaseya Center, but they certainly alluded to it.
For those who don’t recall, Wade was honored with a statue that was the stuff of nightmares, resulting in many viral memes on social media.
Dwyane Wade’s Heat career
-15 seasons
-3 championships
-All-time leader in points, games, assists, and steals
-1 completely unrecognizable statue— Barstool Sports (@barstoolsports) October 27, 2024
For what it’s worth, Dwyane Wade defended the artist who created the statue of his face, which looked like somebody about to turn to dust after Thanos snapped his finger.
“Social media world is about opinions. Send some memes. We don’t care. It was a special moment yesterday, my family and I.” said Wade.
“It don’t need to look like me. It’s an artistic version of me.”
It was certainly a version. X had an absolute field day, regardless.

Barkley Rips The Dwyane Wade Statue
Charles Barkley ribbed Wade over the statue as only Sir Charles can.
“It’s a great honor, but they gotta take that thing down,” Barkley said. “If you made an ugly statue that’s what it would look like. That thing is awful.”
Not only should they take it down, but Governor Ron DeSantis should declare it a residential safety hazard and have it banned from his state.
Derrick Rose does not want to be done dirty like that. Who can blame him?
Rose became the youngest player to win the NBA Most Valuable Player Award in the 2010-2011 season, at the age of 22.
He led the Bulls to an NBA-best 62-20 record, showcasing his exceptional skills with 23 double-doubles and scoring at least 30 points on 23 occasions.
Derrick Rose’s stats tell the story.
By season’s end, he became only the third player since the 1972–73 NBA season to record 2,000 points and 600 assists in a single season.
The other two players? LeBron James and Michael Jordan.
Sadly, though, Derrick Rose never really had a ‘prime’ of his career. Rose tore the ACL in his left knee during the 2012 NBA playoffs.
He would miss all of the 2012-2013 season. Rose then tore the meniscus in his right knee during the 2013-2014 season, cutting it short.
Rose would never really again approach the stats he put up during his MVP season, though he did continue making solid contributions for his clubs several years later.
On Saturday, the Bulls are hosting “Derrick Rose Night” for their game against the New York Knicks. The club is retiring his No. 1 jersey as well, meaning Rose will join only four others with that distinction for the franchise: Jerry Sloan, Bob Love, Michael Jordan, and Scottie Pippen.
