Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel claimed star wide receiver Tyreek Hill quit on his team in their final regular season game against the New York Jets on Sunday.
When asked by reporters after the game, Hill gave one of the unintentionally funniest interviews in some time.
Some background: the Dolphins needed a win and some help to get into the playoffs this weekend. Unfortunately, the help they needed – a Kansas City Chiefs win over the Denver Broncos – went out the window earlier in the day when KC sat starters and got completely blown out.
McDaniel told reporters that Hill revealed his character late in the fourth quarter.
“I was informed he was unavailable right before a drive,” the coach said of Hill. “I was not informed that it was a new injury. Focus was on players on the field.”
The 8-time Pro Bowler countered that claim, saying he was “kinda pulled out” of the game by McDaniel.
The Dolphins lost 32-20.
Tyreek Hill Demands Trade
Mike McDaniel wasn’t the only Dolphin raising eyebrows with his commentary after the game. It’s clear there is some friction between the player and the coach.
Speaking with reporters after the game, Hill suggested he wanted out of Miami. Immediately. Sort of. He mumbled a lot and looked very unsure of himself.
“This is my first time I haven’t been in the playoffs,” Hill said. “I just gotta do what’s best for me and my family. If that’s here or wherever the case may be, I’m finna open that door for myself. I’m opening the door. I’m out, bro.”
“It was great playing here, but at the end of the day, bro, I got to do what’s best for my career. I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there.”
That’s when a reporter asked him if he was thinking about leaving Miami, at which point Hill seemed to realize he went way too far in such an informal interview. He mumbled, lost his words, and eventually just said “Yes” as he was already dipping on the interview.

Previous Friction Between The Two
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill is one of the elite players at his position in the NFL. But that doesn’t make him immune to criticism.
McDaniel criticized him heavily after last season’s critical playoff game against the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
Hill himself revealed that he got called out – hardcore – following the team’s playoff loss to Patrick Mahomes and company.
There was one play in which then-Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed knocked Hill on his butt, that McDaniel apparently didn’t like. And he made it known.
“The play against Sneed. The Chiefs, everybody see this play against the Chiefs. When the motherf**ker slammed me to the floor? He called me out,” Hill said during a podcast interview.
“He like, ‘Reek, bro, you’re supposed to be the [expletive] best player in the [expletive] league, and you got this guy putting hands all over you like that. We pay you all this money for what?”
McDaniel is probably wondering the same thing again this year. What are they paying him if he’s going to be unavailable during a crucial part of the game?
