After Joe and Mika’s post-election Mar-a-Lago meeting with Trump, Mika Brzezinski admitted that her “hair on fire” attacks on Trump hadn’t worked. A few days later, Scarborough acknowledged that his all-fascist-all-the-time Trump treatment also failed, and that voters were more interested in the price of groceries and gasoline.
But that didn’t stop Scarborough from covering Trump in the ugliest way possible today. Scarborough thus kicked off his comments on the certification later today of Trump’s victory with the story of a Capitol Hill police officer who committed suicide after J6.
Scarborough glorified House Minority Leader, and Democrats in general, for—supposedly in contrast with Republicans—not being election deniers.
Joe, does the name Hillary Clinton ring a bell? Have a look at this 12-minute long mash-up video of election-denying Democrats, beginning with Hillary claiming that the 2016 election had been “stolen” from her, and that Trump was an “illegitimate” president. In addition to Hillary, you’ll see Joe Biden, Jimmy Carter, and other prominent Dems denying the legitimacy of Trump’s 2016 win.
So spare us your pro-Democrat sanctimony, Scarborough.
Note: Scarborough’s mention of a Capitol Hill cop who committed suicide was presumably a reference to Politico Magazine‘s 7,000-word story about Capitol Police Officer Howie Liebengood, who took his life after January 6th.
Scarborough never mentioned Officer Liebengood by name, nor explained that none of the officers who died post-J6 did so as a result of injuries received. In the case of Officer Brian Sicknick, the US Capitol Police and the Justice Department did claim that he died as a result of injuries from the attack. But it was later revealed that he had died due to natural causes–two strokes. The three other officers who died, including Officer Liebengood, did so by suicide.
Officer Liebengood’s death was a tragedy. But what Scarborough also didn’t mention while he claimed the riot was “too much for him to contemplate and to bear, sort of PTSD,” is that Officer Liebengood was not guarding the Capitol building that day and had not been injured.
The Politico story reported that back in 2018, Liebengood’s comments about harming himself were so alarming that family members called a suicide prevention hotline. And over the years, Liebengood sought care from mental health therapists to help with his issues.

Morning Joe
1/6/25
6:00 am ETHAKEEM JEFFRIES: Two months ago, the American people elected Donald Trump as the 47th president of the United States of America [Republicans cheer.]
Thank you for that very generous applause.
It’s okay. There are no election deniers on our side of the aisle [Democrats cheer.] You see?
. . .
JOE SCARBOROUGH: But, Jon [Meacham], I’d love to get your thoughts this morning on January the 6th.
We still have, and I saw something, a really moving story today about a Capitol Hill cop who had said his whole life, he either wanted to be a race car driver, or he wanted to be a police officer at the Capitol. He took his life a few weeks after the January 6th riots. It was too much for him to contemplate and to bear sort of PTSD.
There were, all in all, there were four police officers who died. Their families mourned them this morning. And died, the families say, as a result of January the 6th. There were also others that were swept into the madness of that moment who, who passed.
And so here we are. And Hakeem Jeffries is exactly right. There were those four years, eight, four years ago who, who pushed back against a peaceful transfer of power in the most violent of ways.
And yet, how beautiful that Hakeem was able to stand up and say, we lost. We salute you. We hand the gavel to you, basically of power in Washington, D.C. Why? Not because we love what you stand for. Not because we love the campaign that you ran. Not because we believe that what you’re going to do is going to be good for Washington.
But we do this because we love America. This is what people who have loved America for over 240 years have done. And we Democrats, we do it again today.
