The Biden/Harris administration’s record on the border and illegal immigration has been, to put it bluntly, horrible. Millions have flooded into the country illegally, and worse, the administration is making a mockery of the concept of “asylum” and playing administrative games to actually fly thousands upon thousands more in, often dumping them en masse into small towns that lack the infrastructure and services to deal with the sudden influx.

Many of the illegal immigrants, maybe even a majority of them, are young, healthy, military-age men. They are coming not only from Latin America but from North Africa and the Middle East — yes, including Iran — and from China. And we have little or no idea where most of them are, where they are going, or what they intend to do when they get there. But the worst part — the absolute lowest point in this entire debacle — is that the Biden/Harris administration has lost track of as many as 320,000 children who were brought into the United States illegally. Worst of all, that number is six months old. The number has to have grown since then.
Untold numbers of the children — who were released into the US to “qualified sponsors” — are now at risk of sex trafficking, forced labor and other forms of exploitation, a Homeland Security Inspector General’s report released Monday said.
As of May 2024, there are 291,000 migrant children who arrived in the US as unaccompanied minors who were set free and never given a date to appear in immigration court — meaning there is no way to track their whereabouts.
That is in addition to the 32,000 children that Immigration and Customs Enforcement authorities released into the US with hearing dates but then failed to show in court, according to the 14-page report — which tracked a period from October 2018 to September 2023.
One federal whistleblower said that she believes many of these vulnerable kids could already be in the hands of criminals and sex traffickers.

The report, which may be viewed here, concludes (Note: “UC” = Unaccompanied Children):
Based on our audit work and according to ICE officials, UCs who did not appear in immigration court are considered more at risk for trafficking, exploitation, or forced labor. Immigration court hearings are often ICE’s only opportunity to observe and screen UCs for trafficking indicators or other safety concerns. By not issuing NTAs to all UCs, ICE limits its chances of having contact with UCs when they are released from HHS’ custody, which reduces opportunities to verify their safety. Similarly, when ICE does not share information with HHS regarding UCs who did not appear for hearings, HHS personnel are unable to determine if UCs need wellness checks or post-release services for individuals at an increased risk of being trafficked. Without an ability to monitor the location and status of UCs, ICE has no assurance UCs are safe from trafficking, exploitation, or forced labor.
This is the flip side of the United Kingdom’s “grooming gangs” scandal.

In summary: ICE and Health and Human Services don’t know where these kids are, who is keeping them, what they are doing or being forced to do, but they have “no assurance” that they are safe from trafficking, exploitation, or forced labor.

This is a humanitarian catastrophe, and the Biden/Harris administration as good as issued engraved invitations for the traffickers. It’s hard not to see it as deliberate, especially when you listen to a former HHS employee and whistle-blower:
Tara Rodas, who was recruited as a federal government employee to help the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) with an influx of migrant kids in 2021, believed she would be doing noble work. However, she told The Post she was shocked to find she was handing those children to “traffickers, members of transnational criminal organizations, bad actors, bad, bad, bad people.”
When migrants cross the border illegally as children and are apprehended by border agents, they are released to HHS, which helps them connect with their sponsor in the US.
That sponsor doesn’t have to be a family member and during their vetting process are never required to meet with HHS officials in person. The vetting is typically done over the phone, said Rodas.
“At the very beginning of the Biden administration, they stripped all the vetting out of the process,” Rodas said.
To call this disturbing is to engage in the grossest of understatements.

Look, I’m no wild-eyed conspiracy theorist. But there are only two ways to explain this utter collapse of any control over our border and the industrial-scale trafficking of children. Either it’s utter incompetence and the Biden administration is in even more of a shambles than we had thought, or someone, more likely several someones, is engaging in deliberate malfeasance. It may be a combination of the two. In any case, it’s unforgivable.
What’s happening in the United Kingdom is horrible. What’s happening here may be even worse, made so by the fact that we don’t really know what might be going on or how many children may be affected by it. Much as we need to get our border under control, much as we might (rightly) place the blame on the people who brought these children into our nation against our laws, the children are innocent. They did not ask to be brought on a long, dangerous trek to a place they don’t know. They didn’t ask to be brought across one of the most dangerous land borders on the planet. They didn’t ask to be handed off to strangers with little or no attempt to even ensure the kids were related in any way to those claiming them. And now, thanks to the Biden/Harris administration, a third of a million children have disappeared. And let’s be honest, a lot of them will never be recovered.

The incoming border czar, Tom “The Hammer” Homan, says he has made finding these kids a priority. This has to happen. We are the United States of America; we are supposed to, as a nation and as a people, stand against this kind of exploitation and abuse of children.
