Vice President Kamala Harris will be presiding over Congress in an awkward election duty as the Electoral College votes are counted and her defeat by Donald J. Trump is finalized.
Ahead of presiding over the joint session of Congress on Monday, the failed Democrat nominee shared a video message pontificating on the “transfer of power” as many in her party continue to blame the incoming president for the events that transpired on January 6, 2021.
“The peaceful transfer of power is one of the most fundamental principles of American democracy. As much as any other principle, it is what distinguishes our system of government from monarchy or tyranny,” Harris said according to a transcript, The Hill reported.
“Today, at the United States Capitol, I will perform my constitutional duty as Vice President of the United States to certify the results of the 2024 election,” she continued.

“This duty is a sacred obligation—one I will uphold guided by love of country, loyalty to our Constitution, and my unwavering faith in the American people,” she added. “As we have seen, our democracy can be fragile. And it is up to each of us to stand up for our most cherished principles.”
Harris is not alone in the distinction of having to certify the results of an election she lost.
Former Vice President Al Gore did so after his loss to President George W. Bush and, before him, Richard Nixon did the same when he lost to President John F. Kennedy while he was vice president.
“The vice presidency comes with plenty of indignities, but probably none greater than the one Kamala Harris will endure on Monday when she presides over the certification of her defeat,” The New York Times noted Monday, claiming that Harris, unlike Trump, “accepted defeat graciously.”
Social media users weighed in on the vice president doing her job.

She should have to do her job at least one more time.
She has been absent for month while she partied with celebrities.
