Former President Jimmy Carter will lie in state at U.S. Capitol starting on Tuesday before the formal funeral service at the National Cathedral on Thursday where President Biden is scheduled to deliver a eulogy. 

According to the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region, which is organizing the state funeral, ceremonies celebrating and honoring the late president on Tuesday include a “departure ceremony from the Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta; a departure ceremony from Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Georgia; an arrival ceremony at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland; a funeral procession from the U.S. Navy Memorial to the U.S. Capitol; and an arrival ceremony and service at the U.S. Capitol.”

The ceremony in the U.S. Congress honoring Carter is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. ET. Congressional leaders, the Supreme Court, members of the Biden Cabinet, and other officials are expected to attend.

Vice President Kamala Harris, Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D. and House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., are going to deliver eulogies. 

Carter will begin lying in state at the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday from 7 p.m. to midnight for public view.
