President-elect Donald Trump may meet with Senate Republicans as early as Wednesday to discuss their upcoming reconciliation strategy, including whether the bills should be passed in either one or two packages, sources told Politico on Monday.

Trump on Truth Social urged Congress to pass the tax, border, and energy reconciliation bills in a single package on Sunday night, but has since appeared open to the bills being split into two packages.

West Virginia Sen. Shelley Moore Capito is reportedly expected to host the meeting, but it’s not clear what time the meeting would take place. House Republicans are expected to meet Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort over the weekend.

Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso told reporters on Monday that Senate Republicans would meet with Trump soon to discuss the strategy, and endorsed a two-package plan, that would split the border and tax bills.

“We’re all heading in exactly the same direction where we want to get to,” Barrasso said. “I always thought two was a good idea. You can get some early wins with border … and then take the time that we need on the tax bill.”

Senate Majority Leader John Thune has also voiced support for a two-package plan, but Senate Ways & Means Chairman Jason Smith and House Speaker Mike Johnson have supported the one-package idea.
