Sometimes we read stories so bizarre and so tragic that you just can’t wrap your brain around them.

This story from Richmond, Virginia, just absolutely boggles the mind.

I can’t even begin to understand how this could happen.

Police arrested Erin Elizabeth Ann Strotman who was a NICU nurse at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital charging her for injuring one child at the hospital. However, at least half a dozen kids have been victims so more charges are likely to come.

Virginia police have arrested a registered nurse in connection with a twisted attack that left a vulnerable newborn in a hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit with an “unexplainable fracture” in November – and additional charges could come as detectives continue to probe a half dozen similar incidents.

The 26-year-old suspect, Erin Elizabeth Ann Strotman, was booked into the Henrico County Jail on charges of malicious wounding and child abuse that caused serious injury around 1:15 a.m. Friday.

Some of these cases happened more than a year ago. So it’s not like every single baby in the NICU was injured. But now and then, for some unknown reason, the attacker would just pick on a pure innocent newborn baby.

It makes you sick to your stomach.

With three of the attacks happening within about a month’s time, the hospital shut down the entire NICU on Christmas Eve because they deemed it unsafe.

‘In late November/December, we discovered that three babies in our Henrico Doctors’ Hospital NICU had unexplainable fractures, similar to an incident involving four babies in the summer of 2023,’ the hospital said in a statement.

Concerned parents reported the injuries to Child Protective Services last year.

The Hackey family, who reported an injury to CPS last summer, were told nearly a year later that the investigation determined that the injury to their child had been sustained in the hospital.

This was one of four attacks in the summer of 2023.

Then we have a string of 3 fall/winter 2024 attacks which led police to their suspect.

‘Finally we can get some answers as to who abused our son. I wish I could say it was a happy moment learning of her arrest, however, learning the details involving the other babies, the only feeling I have is sadness and regret,’ Dominique Hackey, the father of one of the victims, told Fox News Digital Friday. ‘I am heartbroken to learn the degree in what this person was allowed to get away with, and regret that I should’ve spoke up sooner in hopes to prevent other children from getting hurt.’

Someone working at the hospital was, allegedly, breaking bones of premature and sick newborn children and it took more than a year to get it all sorted out.

The hospital, understandably in my opinion, wanted to think the best after the first reports and chalk the injuries up to accident, since NICU newborns are so incredibly fragile.

Then it happened again, with another successive string of injuries.

While hospital officials said previously that fractures can happen to premature babies, they nevertheless increased security, installed new surveillance systems and notified police after the second series of attacks.

Again, the police have only been able to connect Strotman to one of the attacks so far, and the cases have been closed on some of the older incidents.

Now, with suspect in custody, police are reopening old investigations and pouring over hospital security footage in hopes of find ing evidence in the other 6 (at least) cases of injuries sustained in what is now alleged to be a malicious serial attack.

Let’s pray for justice to be done, for the families of these babies, and that future babies at this hospital are kept safe.
