The New Year’s Day Cybertruck bomber, identified as 37-year-old Matthew Livelsberger, who is an active duty special forces member assigned to U.S. Army Special Operations Command, is a pro-Ukraine activist who also recruited for its war against Russia, according to reports.

The explosion struck outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, which led law enforcement officials to speculate it was a politically motivated attack.

Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said: “This is a Tesla truck, and we know that Elon Musk is working with President-elect Trump, and it’s the Trump Tower. There’s obviously things to be concerned about, and it’s something we continue to look at.”

post from a LinkedIn account belonging to Livelsberger shows him acknowledging he was sending recruits for an operation in Ukraine.

The recruits were reportedly paid $550 a day, and lodging and travel were provided.

A photo of Livelsberger from 2016 surfaced on social media, showing him wearing a black t-shirt with a red-lettered print reading “Slava Ukraini.”

The phrase translates to “Glory to Ukraine” in English

The photo was posted to a Facebook page belonging to his wife, Sarah Livelsberger.

Mrs Livelsberger’s alleged social media account shows she holds far-left views, with various posts displaying extremist rhetoric against President Donald Trump between 2015 and 2016.

She wrote in 2015 that following Trump’s social media made her want to kill someone.

This echoes that of would-be assassin Ryan Routh, who also recruited mercenaries to serve in Ukraine.

Routh reportedly visited over 100 times, the same place Livelsberger was once stationed.

On Thursday, Space X CEO Elon Musk responded to the explosion, saying his company would investigate the incident and that it had “never seen anything like it.”

Musk wrote on X: “The whole Tesla senior team is investigating this matter right now. Will post more information as soon as we learn anything. We’ve never seen anything like this.”

The Tesla explosion claimed one life, while seven were wounded.

The explosion came just hours after a man in New Orleans drove a truck through a crowd of revelers, killing at least 14 people.
