Charles Barkley, in a recent airing of Inside the NBA, blasted the NBA’s current “crappy” product and ripped Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick as a “dead man walking.”

Barkley, never one to hide his feelings, was responding to comments made by Redick a couple of weeks ago. The coach was asked to weigh in on the NBA’s terrible ratings.

Redick went on a long meandering musing of what could be behind viewers fleeing the game before settling on a suggestion that NBA promoters aren’t doing enough to sell the product.

“I don’t think we as, by we I was part of it, as the..sort of national partners have done a good job of storytelling…of celebrating the game,” Redick told reporters.

“If I’m a casual fan, and you tell me every time I turn on the television, ‘the product sucks’… Well, I’m not going to watch the product.”

Now, I’m not sure if Redick was referring specifically to Inside the NBA when he made those seemingly mundane comments, but Charles Barkley clearly took it personally.

And he tore into Redick. Not to mention the game itself with one word.

“He said something about, ‘What are the reasons people ain’t watching this crappy product we got,’ like we out there jacking up a hundred threes a night,” Barkley said.

Redick never said “crappy,” that was Charles’ chosen word. Many analysts have criticized the three-point game, resulting in poor play and the NBA product not worth watching right now.

Anyway, Barkley continued. Relentlessly.

“JJ, you come for the king. You better not miss because I can get you, brother. Remember, I got your Lakers’ games. You can’t hide them flaws they got,” said Barkley.

“You just a dead man walking. They got rid of Frank Vogel who did a good job. They got rid of Darvin Ham who did a good job,” he added. “You came out there thinking you were gonna change things with that same ugly girl you went on a date with.”

Lakers Stink, Man

Charles Barkley’s co-hosts could hardly contain their laughter. Meanwhile, Ernie Johnson desperately tried to get Sir Charles to comment on the game highlights they were watching.

The ‘Round Mound of Rebound’ had no interest.

“He (Redick) came in there thinking, ‘I can make this thing work,’” Barkley concluded. “Hell you can! Put some makeup on that pig! The Lakers stink, man.”

The Lakers have certainly had some down moments this season, but Barkley’s comments come as they’ve won six of their past eight games.

Despite that, Redick’s coaching has been seriously flawed. He began the season by selling fans on the idea that Bronny James was a legit NBA player, then overplayed LeBron to the point where he had to take some time off for being “gassed.”
