The city of New Orleans’ motto seems to have always been “Laissez les bon temps rouler” — (“Let the good times roll.”) It is America’s party capital. Therefore, you would think they would have crowd control and management down to the same science that Floridians have for hurricane recovery. But in the wake of the horrific New Year’s Day terrorist attack in the city’s French Quarter, we are finding out that is not the case. In fact, it is the exact opposite. Not just the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) but also the FBI field office seemingly have had more important things to think about. Those important things: diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

While Shamsud-Din Jabbar was planning his deadly terrorist attack, the New Orleans FBI field office and the NOPD were all-in and true believers in DEI. Social media proved to be fertile ground for recruiting efforts. In May of this year, the bureau issued a press release for a “Diversity Agent Recruitment (DAR) event.” The search for new agents was specifically for applicants with “diverse backgrounds, skills, opinions, and perspectives.”

Instead of catching the bad guys, the field office was busy catching what they apparently felt were the “right” recruits. One social media post encouraged “minorities and women who qualify” to attend the recruiting event. Another post from June of 2024 made it known exactly what the priorities of the FBI are. The post states that they are “committed to fostering diversity and inclusion by hiring special agents from a variety of unexpected backgrounds.” But wait a minute, isn’t it your job to “be committed to” apprehending criminals, not social justice?

In the FBI under the Biden administration, DEI is the order of the day. The woke social media posts continued with a July 2021 post celebrating “The Value of Diversity” and salutes “Near and Middle East Heritage Month.” Just an idea, but aren’t these the guys you might want to be monitoring for any terrorist activity? No month-long celebration was too much for the New Orleans FBI field office as social media posts touting Black History Month, Women’s History Month, and LGBT Pride Month posts followed.

As we have seen since the attack, the leadership of the New Orleans Police Department is no better. Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick is not just incompetent; she is just as woke as the FBI field office. She is an instructor for something called the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Association’s Leadership Training Program, where she teaches topics like “Bias and Diversity, Emotional Intelligence, and Leading Generations.” What? If you need to know any more about what Kirkpatrick’s priorities might be, she also served as Police Chief of Oakland, California, where she practiced “equity-based decision making.” Kirkpatrick lasted just three years in Oakland as the city council fired her “without cause” in 2020. If she was too woke even for Oakland, New Orleans has a big problem.

DEI has afflicted the FBI for a while. An alliance of retired and active duty agents issued a report in January of 2024 outlining the dangerous DEI initiatives being pushed by FBI Director Christopher Wray. The report detailed candidates who were so overweight they could not meet even relaxed physical standards, others who were basically functionally illiterate and needed remedial English lessons, others who thought the FBI was a 9-5 gig and did not want to work after-hours or weekends, and still others with mental health issues or who were described as someone who “creates drama.” For the FBI, it’s all about DEI.

Because of the incompetence of the Biden administration, Donald Trump may have to deal with a resurgence of terrorist groups like ISIS, who Shamsud-Din Jabbar was inspired by to carry out his attack. But an FBI in the Trump administration will have a very different set of priorities. DEI and social justice will be out, and catching bad guys will once again be in.
