On Friday, following the House of Representatives vote for Speaker of the House, President-elect Trump took to his Truth Social platform to congratulate the new Speaker, same as the old Speaker, Mike Johnson (R-LA).

The President-elect writes:
Congratulations to Speaker Mike Johnson for receiving an unprecedented Vote of Confidence in Congress. Mike will be a Great Speaker, and our Country will be the beneficiary. The People of America have waited four years for Common Sense, Strength, and Leadership. They’ll get it now, and America will be greater than ever before!
It’s important to note that the certification of the presidential election on Monday, January 6th, takes place during a joint session of the House and Senate; this could not take place without a Speaker of the House, so President-elect Trump’s congratulations are probably tinctured with a sigh of relief.
RedState’s own Susie Moore reported earlier on newly-reelected Speaker Johnson’s first address to the House.

Susie writes:
After a few dramatic moments to kick off the 119th Congress — including a last-second vote switch — Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) was reelected Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Following the confirmation of the vote, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) addressed the gathered House members and then handed off the gavel to Johnson. When Johnson was first elected speaker in October 2023, it happened so quickly that they didn’t have time to secure a flight for his wife Kelly to join him for it. This time, she was there, and after asking for a moment of silence to honor the victims of the horrific terror attack in his home state on New Year’s Day, Johnson began his speech by expressing his gratitude that Kelly was able to join him and honoring her and their four children.

The incoming House has some big agenda items to fulfill, ranging from DOGE recommendations to reduce government spending to allocating funds for the incoming president’s agenda — including border enforcement and restoring the American military.
The Speaker himself took to X to make a brief statement:
It’s an incredible honor to continue serving our great country as Speaker of House.

Indeed – and the House and Senate have a lot of work to do.
