Well, the 119th Congress is off to a rip-roaring start ain’t it?
While President Trump, Elon Musk, and almost all of the movers and shakers on the Right are pushing for Mike Johnson to be elected Speaker those plans have hit a roadblock.
Ralph Norman joined Thomas Massie of Kentucky in voting against Speaker Mike Johnson retaining his position.
With a narrow majority in the House, Speaker Johnson could afford to lose only one Republican vote. Massie and Norman have effectively prevented Johnson from winning the first vote.
Balloting will continue until a speaker is elected. Until the House elects a speaker, the chamber is essentially frozen. If members don’t wrap up voting by Monday, it could complicate efforts to officially certify Trump’s presidential win.
We’ll see if Republicans can keep it together in the votes to come.
