Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) Credit: CQ Roll Call

Yet another disturbing incident involving one of America’s federally elected officials happened today after Mike Johnson was elected House Speaker on Friday.

81-year-old Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) had just finished voting to help elect Johnson when disaster struck. Fox News revealed that she fell on the grand staircases on the GOP side of the Capitol.

PBS Newshour Correspondent Lisa Desjardins revealed Capitol Police soon swarmed the scene to attend to the elderly member of Congress.

Fox News reported Foxx had to be guided by medical attendants to the Capitol physicians office after falling.

Following the fall, Foxx’s office released the following statement following the accident:

Rep. Foxx slipped while walking down the marble staircase outside the House chamber after walking up to talk to her family in the gallery. After being helped to her feet, and looked over by medical personnel, she proceeded on her own to the Attending Physician’s office to get treated for a few individual cuts. Everything seems to be okay.”

Foxx’s awful fall comes as fellow senior citizens former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi suffered nasty collapses in recent months.

Pelosi’s fall turned out to be particularly serious because she was forced to undergo surgery after breaking her hip, a dangerous injury for someone her age.

Fortunately, she has since recovered.
