Following up on John’s post regarding the terrorist attack outside the Trump International Hotel yesterday in Las Vegas, police now say that camp-fuel canisters and large firework mortars were stuffed into the back of a Tesla Cybertruck. These materials caused the explosion that killed the driver and inflicted minor injuries on seven others.
Elon Musk and Tesla immediately provided assistance to law enforcement in the investigation. Elon himself reported on X that he had “confirmed that the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck and is unrelated to the vehicle itself.” In fact, the design and integrity of the vehicle prevented the explosive materials from doing wider damage. See this morning’s second Axios AM story here and last night’s AP story.
I followed Elon’s updates and reposts on X yesterday. This was one of his first reports.
We have now confirmed that the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck and is unrelated to the vehicle itself.
All vehicle telemetry was positive at the time of the explosion. https://t.co/HRjb87YbaJ

Here is another early comment.
The evil knuckleheads picked the wrong vehicle for a terrorist attack. Cybertruck actually contained the explosion and directed the blast upwards.
Not even the glass doors of the lobby were broken. https://t.co/9vj1JdcRZV

The posts below come in reverse chronological order as Elon responds to headlines that draw a causal relationship between the Tesla Cybertruck itself and the explosion. I thought some readers might be interested in following along.
The Cybertruck literally saved lives in Las Vegas today. The local police department confirmed it.
Then the mainstream media writes headlines that make a terrorist attack look like Tesla’s fault.
This is dishonest and shameful.

Law Enforcement Officials are claiming that because the Suspect used a Tesla Cybertruck in their Attack earlier today against the Trump Hotel & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip, which has 1.4mm Body Panels and 1.8mm Door Panels, the Explosion only caused Minimal Damage; with even… pic.twitter.com/3aBWrA8hfC

A bomb went off in the Cybertruck’s bed and the tires didn’t pop/deflate, the exterior of the truck is intact, the bed door is still attached & the 1.4mm-1.8mm steel exterior (2x thicker vs normal trucks) helped contain the blast.
It’s the toughest & most badass truck ever made! https://t.co/LATz90Ra3F pic.twitter.com/ylncuKblUJ

The Las Vegas Sheriff just said that the Cybertruck actually held it’s frame and limited the damage of the explosion, directing the blast upwards.
He tried to send a message by using a Tesla, but it ended up saving lives instead.

NEW FOOTAGE: “The fact that this was a Cybertruck really limited the damage that occurred inside of the valet, because it had most of the blast go up, through the truck and out… The glass doors at the Trump hotel were not even broken.” pic.twitter.com/XtztqmZAYr
