Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Jalen McMillan raised eyebrows after the game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday by making a surprising statement.
He doesn’t like ducks.
First off, that’s a weird thing not to like. But there’s a reason McMillan was even talking about ducks in the first place.
During Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers, a duck had found its way onto the field of play and coincidentally, the Bucs special teams caused a blocked punt for a touchdown just as cameras captured the feathered creature.
McMillan was asked what he thought about the whole fiasco. In part, he told reporters “Ducks aren’t good luck, they’re weird. I hate ducks, man.” Perhaps the reasoning McMillan hates them is because he was a wide receiver for University of Washington in college and Washington’s biggest rival was the Oregon Ducks.
A quick Google search doesn’t show anything about ducks being bad luck. To the contrary, the UK’s Centre of Excellence notes that ducks are “generally” seen as a sign of good luck.
And considering the blocked punt… well, we will just have to chalk this up to a weird peccadillo on McMillan’s part.
Regardless of the reasoning for the dislike of the feathered creature, they can quack people up. Pardon the pun. He might reappear at a Bucs playoff game in January. We shall see. We do know the Bucs social media team is a fan!
