Nicole Eggert became a household name around the globe when she played Summer Quinn on Baywatch from 1992 until 1994. While working on the iconic show about red swimsuit-clad lifeguards may look like it was all fun and games, Eggert is revealing a major downside to it that might come as a surprise to fans.

Downside To Filming Baywatch

Eggert, 52, told Fox News that she and her Baywatch costars frequently endured frigid temperatures during filming. Sometimes to the point of danger.

“The cold days you have — the bad always outweighs the good,” Eggert said with a laugh. “So, it was like being on the beach is the most amazing job in the world. But the cold days, the freezing days, the days getting rained out and you have to be in the ocean — you’re going, ‘What did I sign up for? What did I do?’”

“You know, fighting hypothermia. Like just trying to find a dry towel anywhere,” she continued. “Those were really hard moments.”

Baywatch was aired from 1989 until 2001. Aside from Eggert, it also starred David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson, Michael Newman, Alexandra Paul, Jeremy Jackson, Gregory Alan Williams, David Chokachi, Parker Stevenson, Geena Lee Nolan, Billy Warlock, Erika Eleniak, David Charvet, and Yasmine Bleeth.

Eggert Reveals Why She Left Baywatch

In this same interview, Eggert opened up about why she left Baywatch after season four. Though she was only 22 when she left the show, she already had years of experience as a child star on the sitcom Charles In Charge. This made Eggert feel burned out by Hollywood.

“I needed to grow up and kind of work on myself,” she explained. “At the time, for my own happiness, I just needed to take some downtime.”

Eggert also talked about how being a “celebrity” in the 1990s was far different than it is today.

“I think the word ‘celebrity’ is used much more loosely now,” she said. “It encompasses so much more, should I say.”

“And celebrity has its funny things, because the ’90s is now nostalgic again,” Eggert continued. “So, it’s actually fun, because people are excited to think about ’90s actors and actresses and people that they watched. So, it’s a fun time right now because the 90s are cool again, so it’s good for me.”

We have only one minor disagreement with that: The 90s have always been cool!

Eggert’s Cancer Battle

This past year has been a challenging one for Eggert. In December of 2023, she was sadly diagnosed with Stage 2 cribriform carcinoma breast cancer. Eggert underwent a mastectomy and finished chemotherapy earlier this year. She recently started radiation therapy.

While getting treatment, Eggert was simultaneously filming Baywatch: Moment in the Sun. This docuseries featured appearances from many former Baywatch stars.

“So, I was very much in touch with most of the cast,” she said. “Almost all of the cast. And, yes, many of them have been extremely supportive and reached out. Alexandra Paul, Brande Roderick, Gina Lee, Erika Eleniak, David Chokachi, these are people that really kind of check on me and make sure I’m OK. And it’s lovely.”

Eggert’s Advice To Her Younger Self

As it typically does, battling cancer has changed Eggert’s entire outlook on life. This has led to her reflecting on what advice she’d give her younger self.

“I would tell my younger self to not be so scared of life — to just really go out and enjoy things more,” she said. “You got nothing to lose. Go live life, you know?”

“I spent so many years just scared and holding things in and covering up for things and pretending like everything was okay,” she continued. “And you don’t have to do that. You don’t have to do that.”

“It feels so good to face the darkness and bring that darkness into light and just enjoy yourself. It’s not that serious,” Eggert concluded. “We’re only here for a short time. I really just wish I had started having this much fun sooner.”

While filming Baywatch may have been difficult at times, we’re glad Eggert and her cast-mates pushed through to make television gold. Please join us in saying a prayer for Eggert as her cancer battle continues in 2025!
