WHNS reported:
One person is in custody after an incident involving a suspicious package halted traffic for hours on Interstate 85 in South Carolina.
According to the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT), the incident caused a traffic backup near Exit 44 at White Horse Road in Greenville.
Officials are asking drivers to avoid this area. As of 5:25 p.m. Thursday, all lanes were blocked.
Greenville County dispatch said the incident involved a tractor-trailer.
Greenville County deputies said SWAT and Bomb team members were called to the scene to assist South Carolina State Transport Police following a reported traffic stop just after 3:30 p.m.
The State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) bomb squad and FBI is also assisting with this investigation.
“I-85 near mile marker 44 is temporarily closed out of an abundance of caution due to a bomb threat issued during a routine traffic stop this afternoon by SC Transport Police,” Governor McMaster said. “SCDOT and state law enforcement are on the scene, and normal I-85 traffic will resume once the tractor trailer is swept and cleared by SELD’s bomb squad.”
