Knife-wielding Tren de Aragua (TdA) Venezuelan gang members have reportedly been trying to force their way into the United States.

“Last week, 20 of the Venezuelan gangbangers — armed with blades, tire irons, and broken liquor bottles — tried to force their way into the US at a border gate,” the New York Post reported Tuesday, citing an internal Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) memo.

Texas DPS was alerted to these attempts by an anonymous informant who warned that they’ll “continue every night” around 3:00 am, including on New Year’s Day.

“The tipster said the gang intends to ’cause harm’ to the Texas National Guard soldiers who are stationed there — ‘especially when they are left alone with no agents’ to help them,” according to the Post.

Speaking with the Post, retired Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agent Victor Avila warned that the gang is desperate to flood the U.S. with as many members as possible before President-elect Donald Trump assumes office.

“You’re seeing that violence at the border because they know that it’s going to change in 27 days,” he said. “It’s going to change. It’s going to be different, and they’re going to be sought after.”

Meanwhile, a Texas law enforcement source confirmed to the Post that “gunfire has picked up big time” along the border in recent days, prompting Border Patrol agents to have to fire pepper balls.

The ongoing violence is reportedly occurring a few miles away from where a group of illegal aliens/migrants rioted in March.

“In that assault, more than 200 illegal migrants broke through razor wire and dash to the wall,” the Post notes. “Some of them brutally assaulted Texas National Guard soldiers in the melee. At least one of the rioters was seen stomping on a service member’s knee as the group tried to break through.”

El Paso, where the riot occurred, is also the headquarters for TdA. According to Avila, the gang has successfully “teamed up” with Mexican border cartels to conduct smuggling operations there.

Avila went on to warn that the current batch of TdA members seem motivated by an ideology similar to that of terrorists.

“I think that TdA is coming in with an instruction from their home country,” he said. “And I think that their ideology is more of a terrorist ideology of destruction.”

“They hate the United States just like terrorists do and they will kill, destroy, take over businesses, take over stores and take over apartment complexes, do whatever they have to do to destroy our way of life in the US,” he added.

All this comes three months after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott declared TdA a foreign terrorist organization.

“The recent entry and expansion of the vicious Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua, is a dangerous and deadly problem facing our state and nation,” he said in a statement at the time. “Our top focus is the safety and security of all Texans. To address this looming threat, I have ordered the Texas Department of Public Safety to launch a statewide operation directly targeting Tren de Aragua to deter and disrupt their criminal operation.”

“I am also officially designating Tren de Aragua as a foreign terrorist organization. Our goal is to defend Texas from the growing threat of the gang. We will not let them use Texas as a base of operations to terrorize our citizens. They have a target on their back, and we are going after them. Texas is the wrong state for them to try to do business in,” he added.

Abbott also directed Texas DPS to create a “strike team” to target TdA operations in the state.

“This strike team will include DPS assets and hundreds of personnel, including DPS Highway Patrol troopers, Special Agents, and Texas Rangers,” a press release from his office reads. “They will coordinate and collaborate with Texas Anti-Gang (TAG) Centers and law enforcement to surge resources to areas where known TdA activity is taking place.”
