Ten people were killed and 30 others were injured after a vehicle drove into a crowd in downtown New Orleans in the early hours of New Year’s Day, according to multiple news reports.

The Wednesday morning incident occurred at the city’s famed intersection of Canal and Bourbon streets, according to the Associated Press.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell called the incident a “terrorist” incident. 

City Police Department Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said the driver shot two officers who are in stable condition. She also said the incident occurred at 3:15 a.m., the vehicle used in the incident was a pickup truck and the FBI will now lead the investigating. 

Kirkpatrick also said the driver went around barricades to hit people in the crowd and was  “hellbent” on “creating the carnage and the damage that he did.”
