President-elect Donald J. Trump’s endorsement of Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) to retain the Speaker of the House job was unconvincing to one GOP lawmaker who is balking at falling in line.

Democrats have their fingers crossed that opposition to Johnson’s speakership will delay the election results being certified next week, potentially complicating Trump’s inauguration. A prolonged process to elect the next Speaker would be a late Christmas gift to the far-left party.

So they have to be cheered by the opposition to Johnson by a handful of Republicans, most vocally from Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) who likened him to former Speaker Paul Ryan, the master of the sellout, and “potato” President Joe Biden.

“On January 3rd, 2017, Paul Ryan was elected Speaker by every Republican except me. Ryan went on to offer a fake repeal of ObamaCare, increased spending, backed the deep state, and didn’t fund a wall,” Massie said in a Monday post to X. “Two years later we lost the majority and democrats made a living hell for Trump.”

“Mike Johnson is the next Paul Ryan,” he added, branding Johnson as a new version of Mitt Romney’s running mate. “On January 3rd, 2025, I won’t be voting for Mike Johnson. I hope my colleague will join me because history will not give America another ‘do-over.’”

In another post, Massie compared Johnson’s election to Democrats covering up for Biden’s degraded mental condition.

“For months Democrats ignored the fact that Joe Biden was a potato. They convinced themselves that keeping him around was the pragmatic way to win the day. Too late did they admit the emperor had no clothes,” he said. “Republicans are doing the same thing by keeping Speaker Mike Johnson.”

Trump came out in support of Johnson in a Monday post to Truth Social, branding the GOP as “the Party of COMMON SENSE,” urging Republicans to make the right choice so the business of cleaning up Biden’s mess can get started.

“We ran a flawless campaign, having spent FAR LESS, with lots of money left over. They ran a very expensive ‘sinking ship,’ embracing DOJ & FBI WEAPONIZATION against their political opponent, ME. BUT IT DIDN’T WORK, IT WAS A DISASTER!!!” Trump said. “LETS NOT BLOW THIS GREAT OPPORTUNITY WHICH WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN.”

“The American people need IMMEDIATE relief from all of the destructive policies of the last Administration. Speaker Mike Johnson is a good, hard working, religious man,” he added. “He will do the right thing, and we will continue to WIN. Mike has my Complete & Total Endorsement. MAGA!!!”

Massey emphasized his support for Trump while pointing out how Johnson caved on Ukraine funding, the budget, and the ongoing Deep State surveillance of law-abiding Americans.

“I respect and support President Trump, but his endorsement of Mike Johnson is going to work out about as well as his endorsement of Speaker Paul Ryan. We’ve seen Johnson partner with the democrats to send money to Ukraine, authorize spying on Americans, and blow the budget,” the Kentucky Republican said in a post to X.

Massey also shared a video of what was one of the most grotesque displays to ever take place in Congress when America’s elected representatives cheered and waved their silly little Ukraine flags after Johnson’s sell-out on the mammoth gift to the Zelenskyy regime earlier this year.

“Let’s pause to remember this moment in Congress when Mike Johnson gave the Democrats the billions of dollars they wanted for Ukraine. The House Sergeant at Arms threatened to fine me for sharing this video. That same man still works for Mike Johnson,” he wrote.

The vote for Johnson is set for Friday. If Massie follows through and refuses to vote for him, Republicans can only afford one more defection in a razor-thin majority that was finally determined after weeks of post-election ballot counting.
