Rallying for a reckoning, a syndicated columnist’s pick for 2024’s biggest loser slammed peers who’d proven “a disgrace to the profession” on one key aspect of President Joe Biden’s tenure.

Much like an admission years after the fact that the Hunter Biden laptop story had been legitimate, having suppressed its impact ahead of the 2020 election, the waning days of the Biden administration brought with them acknowledgment from some in corporate media that “Lunch Bucket Joe’s” train had left the station some time ago.

During a panel on “Fox News Sunday” discussing the political winners and losers of the year, syndicated columnist and radio host Cal Thomas had no qualms calling out so-called journalists who not only ignored but participated in “covering up” for the president’s decline.

When prompted for his picks by Fox News anchor Shannon Bream, Thomas picked the media after referencing the Democratic Party and before adding, “Same thing, sorry to repeat myself.”

Rattling off examples of failures in journalism, the writer stated, “They covered up for Biden’s mental acuity decline. They covered up…on the Hunter Biden laptop. Facebook and other social media covered up on the New York Post story about the Hunter Biden laptop. The 51 intelligence agencies who — the Russia, Russia, Russia thing — signed off saying it was true.”

“The media followed all of this. And I think it’s a disgrace to the profession that I’ve been a part of for half a century,” asserted Thomas. “And I wish that we get some new blood in the media to actually practice journalism instead of practicing politics.”

Since a Wall Street Journal article detailed before Christmas how White House aides “insulated” the president throughout his term, corporate media has faced increased scrutiny for apparent complicity in what many had dubbed the “Weekend at Bernie’s” presidency.

Confronting a more combative panel, commentator Scott Jennings pushed back on CNN when Karen Finney, once an adviser to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, sold a narrative about Biden’s legacy that included supposed successes in the Middle East.

Reminding that American hostages were still being held by Hamas while sitting on a powder keg in the region where gasoline was poured on it throughout the incumbent’s tenure, Jennings asserted, “…we’re just getting the first draft of this now, but as we continue to learn about the massive cover-up that went on — not about his health, but about his mental acuity — to cover that up, the efforts that were undertaken by the White House staff, by his family — not in the last couple of months, but for all four years — I think it’s gonna be a really ugly chapter.”

“It’s a diminished presidency because of it and I think we still don’t know the full extent of what they did to try to hide what they’ve been doing over in the West Wing,” added the commentator.

As for a winner, Thomas picked outgoing West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin (I) for putting “his country first, his party second and himself third.”
