A November poll found that 60 percent of likely voters believe our nation does not need more foreign H-1B visa workers.

The poll results have been making new headlines as a civil war rages within the party over the issue, in part due to Elon Musk’s posts calling American workers “retarded” while defending companies importing their staff.

The Rasmussen Reports survey, conducted November 25, 2024, found that Americans believe the U.S. “already has enough talented people to train and recruit” for white-collar jobs.

A 26 percent minority said Congress should increase the number of foreign visa workers.

Breitbart News reports:

Republicans and swing voters, in particular, say the U.S. has enough American talent for such jobs and does not need more foreign visa workers.

The survey shows that 72 percent of Republicans, 63 percent of swing voters, and a plurality of 47 percent of Democrats say the U.S. has talented people who can be trained and recruited for open white-collar jobs.

The report noted that during President Donald Trump’s first term, his administration reformed the program to prevent abuse and companies firing Americans to hire foreigners.

Trump’s reforms were overturned by Joe Biden in 2022.

The H-1B debate has caused a heated rift among the right as Elon Musk has vowed to go to war with anyone who disagrees with importing foreign workers.

In a post on Saturday night, after unverifying several organizations and dozens of influencers who disagreed with him, Musk tweeted, “Take a big step back and F-CK YOURSELF in the face. I will go to war on this issue the likes of which you cannot possibly comprehend.”

Earlier in the day, he had tweeted about purging racism from the Republican Party.

Musk has said he voted for Biden in 2020, but became a major donor to Trump after originally endorsing Ron DeSantis.
