Mariah Carey faced criticism for her pre-recorded performance during Netflix’s inaugural NFL Christmas Gameday, with fans specifically disappointed in her apparent lack of energy.

Viewers were under the impression that Carey would be performing “All I Want For Christmas Is You” live before the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers game. Instead, they got a bizarre recorded segment.

The appearance involved the “Fantasy” singer crooning from a snow-covered rooftop interspersed with various football clips.

Netflix partnered with the NFL to stream two games, starting with Kansas City Chiefs vs. Pittsburgh Steelers, followed by the Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans, with Beyoncé performing live at halftime of the latter.

Mariah was essentially to be the warmup for Queen Bey as well as the games themselves, but alas, ’twas not to be.

Fans Rip Mariah Carey AND Netflix

Most of the fans took umbrage with this being a pre-recorded performance and not live, leading some to speculate about Mariah Carey’s ability to still sing.

“Wait a min it’s not a live performance ?! This just p**sed me OFF,” one fan responded to the Netflix airing of the clip.

“Literally no one wants this,” another grumbled.

Then there were those who thought the performance itself was bad. Especially concerning, considering it was pre-recorded and could have been livened up a bit through the magic of editing or reshoots.

“Literally, no one wants this,” one brutal response said.

“A pretape where she can’t even keep her eyes open,” another wrote. “So embarrassing.”

It Could Have Been Worse

At least they chose to air this version of “All I Want For Christmas Is You” instead of the version she produced with Justin Bieber many moons ago.

Carey and Bieber teamed up to ruin her holiday hit in 2011 with the following video when Carey was 41 and Bieber was 17.

The ick factor was off the charts. The video features an endless reel of shots showing Carey from behind, wearing a short skirt and high heels and leaning up against a wall while Bieber and his friends ogle her.

Apparently, the wall was in danger of falling over. Repeatedly.

It’s unclear from the Netflix clip if Mariah Carey can’t keep her eyes open due to her lack of enthusiasm or due to excessive cheek botox injections.
