If you’re looking to score a new PS5 by threatening people with a gun, maybe don’t do it in Texas.
The media is keen on using words like “teen” and “young children” in coverage of crime like this.
Consider Click2Houston:
Yeah, sorry, but 12-to-14 years old is not synonymous with “young children.”
The media often uses phrases like this to garner sympathy with minority communities that have higher rates of juvenile crime and family instability. While we don’t know the background of these “young children,” the media is still making a joke of itself here.
These aren’t preschoolers. These were young men who allegedly decided to hold up a man at gunpoint.
And when you point guns at people in dark parking lots, your intended victims have the right to blast you before you can blast them.
More from ABC13:
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, several children between the ages of 12 and 15 years old tried to rob the man with what appeared to be a pistol.
Deputies said the man then got a weapon and fired, hitting and injuring at least three boys. All three of them were transported to the hospital. At least one of them is in critical condition, officials said.
Whether or not the kids’ pistol was real or whether they intended to use it is irrelevant. The threat to the intended victim in such a scenario is still real. You can’t threaten the use of deadly force, flash “what appeared to be a pistol” in someone’s face, and then cry fowl when the victim decides not to die or be robbed.
ABC13 spoke with neighbors, who said they heard at least 10 gunshots before checking to see what happened.
I’m always leery when the media reports the number of rounds used to stop a threat. Many times they want the public to see it as excessive as part of a wider push to ban gun magazines with more than 10 rounds.
The correct number of rounds needed in a violent scenario are the number of rounds that it takes to take down or escape the threat.
If that’s one bullet, God bless you. Few people would be able to take out multiple threats with less than 10!
Officials said the children and the man involved did live at the complex.
Where were these “young children’s” parents?
It’s Christmas Day and they’re out there robbing their own neighbors at gunpoint??
If America answered that question, we’d see a lot less crazy stories like this one.
