CNN’s conservative political analyst Scott Jennings stirred controversy during a Christmas Eve segment on “CNN News Central” when he delivered sharp critiques of the Democratic Party and offered an unexpected defense of former President Donald Trump’s proposal to purchase Greenland.
The discussion began with co-host Kate Bolduan inviting Democratic strategist Maria Cardona to address internal criticism of the Democratic Party.
Figures like Sen. Joe Manchin (I-WV) have referred to the party as “toxic,” and communications strategist Lis Smith recently remarked that “the Democratic brand is in the toilet.”
DNC Finance Committee member Lindy Li says her party has the “stench of loser” written all over it after Trump trounced them in the election.

Cardona’s response aimed to downplay Trump’s electoral success while framing the Democratic Party as the protector of the American dream. “We certainly have work to do, but there’s no question that the Democrats still stand for making sure that everyone has the ability to acquire the American dream,” she said.
Her comments, however, failed to satisfy Jennings, who expressed frustration over the limited time allotted for his response.
Bolduan ultimately gave him an additional 30 seconds, setting the stage for his pointed rebuttal.
Jennings wasted no time delivering his response. “It took Maria five minutes. Here’s 10 seconds,” he said.
“Democrats are the party of uncommon nonsense. Republicans are the party of common sense. It’s why our tent right now is full of such a wide ideological spectrum. People are flocking to the Republicans because we stand for common sense. And Democrats have taken on all this uncommon fringe nonsense.”
He concluded with advice for the Democrats: “If they are in the toilet, my advice? Flush away the fringe and the people who have drug you down there. Because this is why Republicans won the election.”

The exchange prompted visible reactions from both Bolduan and Cardona.
Bolduan mouthed “oh geez” while Cardona attempted to interject, describing Jennings’ remarks as oversimplified and dismissive.
The debate became so heated that Bolduan eventually threatened to cut their microphones.
In a lighter but equally contentious moment, the discussion shifted to Trump’s recent proposal to purchase Greenland.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump declared the move vital for national security and global freedom.

While many dismissed the idea as outlandish, Jennings offered a spirited defense.
“Yes, we need Greenland. Greenland is an amazing thing to have,” Jennings said. Drawing a comparison to Monopoly, he described Greenland as a strategic “vital property” and suggested it would be a significant legacy achievement for Trump’s second term.
Jennings took the conversation further, announcing his desire to play a role in Greenland’s governance if the purchase were successful. “I am personally, and on television, applying to be the military governor of Greenland if, in fact, we do take control of it,” he stated.

The segment concluded with Bolduan calling the exchange a “hijacking” as the participants traded barbs over the Greenland proposal.
Cardona dismissed the idea as unrealistic, while Jennings doubled down on its potential strategic benefits.
The heated discussion left viewers with a mix of policy critique and bold proposals, reflecting the ongoing battle over political narratives heading into the new year.
