Over 10,000 pounds of pork and beef products are being recalled across several states due to serious labeling issues, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
Two distinct recalls involve mislabeled products that could pose risks to public health, particularly for individuals with allergies, reported EatingWell.
Approximately 7,485 pounds of raw Italian pork sausage sold in Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania are being recalled because they were distributed without the required FSIS inspection. These sausages, labeled as “Old World Italian Sausage,” were sold at deli counters from October 3 to December 19, 2024. Consumers who may have purchased these products are urged to check their refrigerators and dispose of them immediately. While no illnesses have been linked to this recall, individuals who experience symptoms after consuming the sausage should consult a healthcare provider.
In a separate recall, over 3,000 pounds of ready-to-eat garlic bologna, branded as Ralph’s Circle R, is being pulled from shelves in Oklahoma. This product, sold at deli counters since September 2022, is recalled for undeclared dairy, a common allergen, per EatingWell. Dairy allergies can trigger reactions ranging from mild discomfort to life-threatening anaphylaxis. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include hives, swelling, abdominal pain, and, in severe cases, difficulty breathing or cardiac arrest. The FSIS has not received reports of adverse reactions linked to this recall, but individuals with dairy allergies are advised to exercise caution. Consumers are encouraged to immediately dispose of any affected bologna to avoid potential health risks. For those experiencing severe allergic reactions, contacting emergency services is critical.
Labeling errors, such as those in these recalls, underscore the importance of accurate product information for consumer safety. Food products that bypass inspection or fail to declare allergens jeopardize public health and can lead to widespread recalls. […]
