The mother of a little girl who was injured in a car accident allegedly caused by Ryan Routh, who allegedly tried to assassinate President-elect Donald Trump in September, says her daughter is now awake and in therapy to “restart her brain.”

Six-year-old Mia Rosalie Monreal was in the car with her brother, mother Norka Pardo and Pardo’s boyfriend during the accident, which allegedly occurred during Florida law enforcement’s apprehension and arrest of Routh, according to Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody.

Monreal was airlifted to a hospital for surgery after suffering brain damage in the crash. She was at St. Mary’s Medical Center for a month and a half, and in a coma for one month, Pardo told the news station WPTV.

In an update on Tuesday, Pardo said her daughter was admitted to Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital on Dec. 18, “for the program of ‘Disorders of Consciousness.’”

“We have been waiting for this point of her recovery process for a couple of months now and we are glad we are finally here,” Pardo wrote on a GoFundMe update. “In Mia’s current state, her eyes are open but there’s a severe lack of awareness and responsiveness.

“For the next 3-4 weeks, the program will consist of intense therapy to restart her brain. Depending on how she progresses, It will determine the next stage of her rehabilitation or if we will be heading home.”

Pardo, who has taken time off work to focus on her daughter, asked for prayers during the next phase of Monreal’s healing. The GoFundMe page, which was started by a friend of the family, has currently raised just over its $28,000 of its $80,000 goal.

Routh has been charged with the attempted assassination of Trump, which occurred at a golf course in Palm Beach, Florida, in September. Trump also survived a separate assassination attempt in July.
