Remember that insane $325 million superyacht that the U.S. government confiscated from Russian billionaire Suleyman Kerimov?
It turns out the government has spent $53 million of your taxpayer dollars maintaining the ship just in case it has to be given back.
Here’s a breakdown of what a little of that spending looks like on the Amadea:
-
$178,000 per month in dry docking fees
-
$144,000 per month for insurance costs
-
$52,717.08 on food and groceries for crew members
-
$277,200 for fuel
-
$1,000 on iPhone 11s for the bridge captains
Essentially, all those Russian crew members are working for our government now!
Seriously, that’s a lot of food and groceries. And where are they sailing that they need $277,200 for fuel? I thought this thing was dry docked.
We’re paying for it to be dry docked!
But this item has to be my favorite of the bunch:
What kind of toilet brushes cost that much?
All told, the monthly cost of seizing the boat is $922,000, and there’s no hope of getting rid of it without a court order. Seized assets over $500,000 require a court order to be liquidated.
Even with the all-clear to sell it, who would dare buy a Russian oligarch’s yacht and sail it on the open seas?
