It’s getting to the point where you’ve just got to feel bad for the Buffalo Sabres.

Going into Saturday’s game against the Boston Bruins, the Sabres had lost 12 straight games.

Things have been so bad over that stretch that team owner Terry Pegula met with the team, and oddly enough, reportedly told them not to expect any big changes.

Well, maybe he’s got a point, because right now this team just seems destined to lose hockey games, especially when you see how they gave up the winning goal on Saturday.

The Sabres tied the game in the second period of this one (although as ESPN’s John Buccigross noted, there was a disturbing lack of excitement about this) and kept it 1-1 until the final five minutes of regulation.

At the 16:15 mark of the third, Sam Lafferty was sent to the sin bin for tripping Boston’s Oliver Wahlstrom, handing the Bruins a crucial powerplay.

Now, giving the other team a power play when you’re on a 12-game skid is probably the last thing you’d want to do, but there’s no way anyone saw the Bruins giving up the game-winning goal because they tripped a Bruin into their own goalie… but that’s what happened.

You have got to be kidding me…

That proved to be the game-winner, and the Bruins tacked on an empty-netter to win this one 3-1.

The Sabres have now lost 13 games in a row, and if ever there was a team that needed the Christmas break, it’s them.

The Sabres have one more game before the break and it’s against the New York Islanders. If they can snag a win before the break, what a relief that would be, but if they can’t, at least they can use the break to regroup a little bit; maybe slam some egg nog.

After Christmas, they’ll be back in action on December 27 against the Chicago Blackhawks, which is likely to be a meeting between the two worst teams in the league.
