If there was once a day when the Associated Press was the gold standard of journalism, it now seems like eons ago for a media organization that has become a shameful peddler of propaganda, half-truths, and outright lies.
On Friday afternoon the news broke of a horrific incident at a Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany when a speeding vehicle plowed through a crowd of revelers, turning a festive occasion into a nightmare in which at least two people were killed and 60-80 injured.
Adding to the horror are signs that it could have been a terrorist attack with the driver of the BMW being identified as a 50-year-old doctor from Saudi Arabia who, according to authorities, was arrested with an explosive device that would seem to suggest that there may have been Islamist motivation to the shocking pre-holiday violence.
But rather than report on the shocking story honestly, AP’s headline seemed to suggest that the carnage was caused by a self-driving car, a prime example of how the biggest media lies are the lies of omission.
The grossly misleading headline was slapped with a community note: “‘A car has driven’ implies that the car drove itself, which is factually incorrect. A man from Saudi Arabia intentionally drove the car into the Christmas market as a terror attack.”
“Who was driving the car?” Vice President-Elect J.D. Vance asked, sharing AP’s post about the incident.

“AP stands for Associated Propaganda,” Elon Musk said in a post to X, hitting the bullseye on the once-venerable media organization.

Other X users lit up “Associated Propaganda” like a Christmas tree.
Cars don’t randomly attack Germans at HIGH SPEED at Christmas Markets. Just like Trucks don’t attack the French celebrating national holidays.
What was the car’s motive?
My heart goes out to all those targeted in what is all but certain to be an act of *Anti-Christian* terror. https://t.co/Up9DPxLwpv

Man, autonomous vehicles in Europe must be out of control! This happens a lot over there!

Fact check: False
The car was driven by a human.

This is why community notes are so critical. The rise of X means the legacy media isn’t going to get away with lying all the time to prop up poisonous left wing politicians and policies.
What an embarrassment for @AP. pic.twitter.com/Hxi838YTKi

The AP continues to disgrace itself on a daily basis.
It’s truly amazing to watch.

How come it’s framed like the plot of Maximum Overdrive every time someone shouts Allahu Akbar while driving over a crowd of Europeans on holiday? https://t.co/DSYYqCcz98

It wasn’t just the AP either. Numerous other legacy media outlets that have been purveyors of the multiculturalism laying waste to Western civilization also blamed the vehicle, not the Saudi immigrant driver.

In the story itself, AP still led with the car before acknowledging in the second sentence that it was being driven by someone.
“A car plowed into a busy outdoor Christmas market in the eastern German city of Magdeburg on Friday, killing at least two people and injuring at least 60 others in what authorities called a deliberate attack,” the report stated. “The driver was arrested at the scene shortly after the car barreled into the market at around 7 p.m., when it was teeming with holiday shoppers looking forward to the weekend.”
