To call the Biden/Harris administration’s border policies a failure is to engage in the most egregious understatement since Napoleon Bonaparte remarked that his invasion of Russia “hadn’t quite lived up to expectations.” The outgoing administration’s handling of border and immigration issues has been a disaster on the scale of the 1812 retreat from Moscow, and the fruits of that disastrous policy as still becoming apparent, and not just along the borders.

Case in point: Earlier this month, a joint NYPD and Homeland Security task group raided what was revealed to be a Tren de Aragua safe house, nabbing at least seven members of that notorious, ruthless, criminal Venezuelan prison gang.

Federal agents nabbed a migrant Tren de Aragua gang crew holed up in a Bronx apartment — after tracking one of their ankle monitors to the hideout, sources told The Post.

The Dec. 5 raid at an apartment building on the edge of Crotona Park, conducted by a federal task force made up of Homeland Security Investigations and the NYPD, landed seven alleged gangbangers in handcuffs, including a troublesome 28-year-old Venezuelan national who was wearing a court-ordered monitoring device that led the feds to the crew.

“Better late than never,” quipped a law enforcement source who wondered why Jarwin Valero-Calderon was free despite at least three busts, a Nassau County conviction and a federal deportation order.

Better late than never? You might try explaining that to Jocelyn Nungaray’s family. Or Rachel Morin’s family. Or Laken Riley’s family.

The raid was nonetheless a significant blow against TdA, the violent gang that snuck into the US with a wave of migrants seeking asylum since 2022 — and gained a foothold in New York.

Law enforcement officials said the gang has recruited inside tax-funded migrant shelters and runs violent theft and robbery crews while peddling drugs, guns and women in the five boroughs.

“What we’re seeing is this evolution of Tren de Aragua, where they’ve gone into these sanctuary cities,” said former Denver ICE chief John Fabbricatore. “They’ve started to solidify themselves and then they throw tentacles out to multiple other locations where they think that they can continue to make money.

“I think people are finally starting to realize how bad the situation has gotten.

As should come as a surprise to no one, I have some questions.

First: The goblin with the ankle monitor, Jarwin Valero-Calderon, was walking around unimpeded other than the ankle monitor that apparently no one was monitoring, despite his (at least) three previous arrests. His immigration status should have been determined at that time, and in any sane system, the moment he was found to be in the country illegally, he should have been handed a one-way ticket to Caracas and escorted to the airport by U.S. Marshals who made sure he was on the plane when it departed. Why was he walking around loose?

Second: Is Homeland Security and the NYPD squeezing these guys to see if they’ll give up anything on other gang houses? It’s uncertain if any of them would spill; these clowns are as big on omerta as any Sicilian Mafiosi that ever drew breath. But if they could flip one…

Third and finally: OK, you caught these guys. When will they be deported? Today would be good.

On January 20th, a new administration takes charge, and on border and immigration policy, the new Sheriff in town, Tom “The Hammer” Homan, is vowing to clean this mess up. Let’s hope it’s not too late.
