It’s been three months since Ryan Seacrest took over hosting Wheel of Fortune from the legendary Pat Sajak, who hosted the iconic game show for over forty years. Seacrest has since struggled to win over many diehard Wheel of Fortune fans who desperately miss Sajak.
Now, a source close to the situation is speaking out to claim that Seacrest, 49, is “reeling with regret” over ever agreeing to replace Sajak, 78. Indeed, Seacrest is allegedly telling friends that he made a “major mistake” in ever trying to fill Sajak’s shoes.
Seacrest ‘Feels A Ton Of Pressure’
“Ryan is seriously feeling the pressure and wondering if there’s just no winning this fight,” an insider told Radar Online. “Everything he tries on the show seems to spark an outcry, and he’s already fed up with the fan backlash.”
“He’s getting the very distinct impression nothing will make them happy short of Pat coming out of retirement and hosting the show again,” the source continued. “Ryan feels a ton of pressure because of his salary and the expectations that producers have set.”
The insider went on to claim that Seacrest feels that he made a huge mistake taking this gig in the first place.
“He feels like the whole thing is weighing him down and wrecking his reputation,” the source added. “It’s also taking time away from his American Idol duties and his recent foray into launching a cooking show. In short, it’s a real dumpster fire.”
“He thinks he may have made a tremendous miscalculation and it could have dire ramifications for him,” concluded the insider.
Seacrest’s Rough Start
Seacrest unfortunately got off to a rough start when he replaced Sajak back in September. From the very beginning, Seacrest struggled to win over Sajak’s loyal fans.
“This is a very stressful time for Ryan,” one Wheel of Fortune insider said right after Seacrest took over. “He’s in the seat now! Ryan’s trying to sugarcoat this and say it’s good news, that the only way is up since Pat’s ratings are down. But the bosses are worried it’s a free-fall that might not be automatically reversible just by hiring a new host.”
“The stakes are very high and Ryan’s under enormous pressure to deliver on the massive salary they’re paying him, not to mention the huge money they invested in giving Vanna her raise,” the source continued. “If the ratings don’t come back up, Ryan knows he’ll be the scapegoat, so it’s incredibly stressful.”
Vanna White Extends Her Contract
This was a reference to Wheel of Fortune co-host Vanna White, 67, who hosted the game show with Sajak for over forty years. When Sajak retired, White got her first raise in nearly two decades when she extended her contract for at least two more years.
“Vanna’s in the catbird seat,” the insider added in September. “She can just stand back and see how Ryan gets on. Even if that’s not her intention, she can certainly be the one to benefit from this in a big way because she’d be the next obvious replacement. Everyone knows there’s no one the fans would rather see take over from Ryan — she’d be a slam dunk!”
Sajak is a true legend, and there will never be another one like him. Seacrest can keep trying, but he might just be correct in his assessment that replacing Sajak is simply an impossible task!
