As companies across America begin rolling back their DEI initiatives, American Airlines is now jumping on board.

The major airline agreed to eliminate its DEI hiring program following a discrimination suit filed by American First Legal. The organization posted about its success on X, detailing the impetus behind the legal action.

Look:

“The U.S. Department of Labor has confirmed that American Airlines will end race and sex-based discrimination in hiring and promotions following AFL’s federal civil rights complaint,” the post read, accompanied by photos of the filing.

“AFL filed the complaint against American with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) on January 17, 2024, requesting an investigation into the airline for allegedly violating its federal contracting nondiscrimination obligations,” the statement continued. “Despite receiving over $140 million in federal contracts since 2008, American Airlines engaged in illegal race and sex-based discrimination in hiring, recruitment, and promotional processes.”

“On December 13, 2024, the OFCCP held a compliance conference with American Airlines, indicating violations of the equal opportunity clause,” AFL revealed.

“Following AFL’s federal civil rights complaint and the compliance conference with the OFCCP, American Airlines agreed to end illegal race and sex-based discrimination in all hiring and promotional processes — including unlawful DEI quotas, benchmarks, and preferences.”

The organization boasted that this is not the first airline they’ve slapped with a lawsuit, prompting three of the major airlines to abandon their DEI initiatives.

“AFL filed similar complaints against United Airlines and Southwest Airlines earlier this year. All three airlines — United, Southwest, and American — have now agreed to end illegal DEI policies,” they wrote. “Together, United, Southwest, and American control approximately 50 percent of the airline market, and their commitment to ending illegal race and sex-based discrimination across employment practices is a significant step toward restoring fairness in the industry.”

The thread concluded with a vow to continue fighting back against all corporations receiving tax dollars so they won’t engage in discriminatory hiring practices.
