It’s like they learned nothing…
Prominent conservatives are blasting the “not-so-clean” 1,500+ page continuing resolution this week after digging through the massive CR and finding it’s packed with pork.
The message from Team MAGA: the reckless spending has to end.
According to The Hill, “The continuing resolution (CR), which will keep government funding at current levels through March 14, is also set to include $100.4 billion in disaster aid for those affected by hurricanes earlier this year and $10 billion in economic assistance for farmers, lawmakers said, among other provisions.”
But that’s not all that’s in it — it includes pay raises for members of Congress, expansion of their health benefits, money for a new stadium, and more.
“It’s not a CR, which is a continuation of the budget. It’s turning into an omnibus,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) said.
“We got the 1,500+ page, not-so-clean CR late last night. There’s no way anyone is reading this whole thing that quickly. It’s longer than the average Bible, for goodness’ sake! This is the same tired trick Washington uses repeatedly to force reckless spending and wasteful government programs through Congress, forcing us to vote on bills before we even know what’s in them. IT HAS TO STOP!” Florida Rep. Rick Scott said on X.

DOGE leaders Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy also blasted the continuing resolution and they’re calling on Congress to kill the bill.
How can this be called a “continuing resolution” if it includes a 40% pay increase for Congress? https://t.co/qFFUP0eUOH

Musk said on X that shutting down the government would be better than passing this bill.
“Shutting down” the government (which doesn’t actually shut down critical functions btw) is infinitely better than passing a horrible bill https://t.co/jfFCVWd2T2

Vivek Ramaswamy says he read the entire 1,500+ page bill — but warns that Congress is wasting taxpayer cash with this “last-minute jam job.”

Texas Rep. Chip Roy is calling the bill the “Cramnibus” and is encouraging his fellow members of Congress to vote the bill down.

“We get this negotiated crap, and we’re forced to eat this crap sandwich,” Roy said. “Why? Because freaking Christmas is right around the corner. It’s the same dang thing every year. Legislate by crisis, legislate by calendar. Not legislate because it’s the right thing to do.”
“It’s a total dumpster fire. I think it’s garbage,” said Rep. Eric Burlison (R-MO), another member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus. “This is what Washington, D.C., has done. This is why I ran for Congress, to try to stop this. And sadly, this is happening again.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson is getting heat from his own party — and some reports claim he may face a challenge.
From Fox News:
House GOP critics of how Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., is handling government funding talks are already beginning to float names of possible challengers, people told Fox News Digital.
Two GOP lawmakers told Fox News Digital that House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, and Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., were all mentioned in early talks about alternatives.
One of the two lawmakers said they had not heard from any of the three, adding, “That would be suicidal.”
