President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday officially secured enough votes from the Electoral College to clinch the presidency, after state electors in Texas gave him their 40 votes in Austin.

Trump became the presidential nominee on Nov. 5 after defeating Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the nationwide vote. But 538 electors will formalize the results of the election in their respective states on Tuesday, per CNN.

In November’s election, Trump won enough states to earn 312 Electoral College votes and Harris won 226. He needed 270 to win the presidency, and so far each elector has voted according to their state’s results.

The state votes will now go to Congress, where lawmakers will certify the results of the election on January 6 in a joint session, before Trump and Ohio GOP Sen. JD Vance are sworn in as president and vice president on January 20.

The White House and Trump administration have already initiated the transition process for Trump’s return to the Oval Office, and Trump has also announced his nominations for his next presidential Cabinet.

Harris and the White House have said they will not contest the results of the 2024 presidential election.
