The future of the Democratic Party may well fall into the hands of a failed pillow entrepreneur who ended speculation about a planned candidacy in the “party of sycophants.”
In the aftermath of the 2024 presidential election, the end of what many considered to be former President Barack Obama’s unofficial third term seemingly spelled the end of his influence over the party. With Vice President Kamala Harris’ plans yet to be announced, a changing of the guard for the Democratic National Committee found David Hogg looking to become a bigger cog in the left’s machine.
From being a student during the 2018 tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida to corporate media darling gun activist, Hogg released a statement Monday officially seeking a position as a vice chair with the DNC.
“Moving forward, we must have a renewed focus on our youth outreach in all states and territories to rebuild our coalition after the massive shift to the right among young voters this election,” Hogg said, according to NBC News. “We need a collaborative environment where we don’t just surround ourselves with people who agree with us. We must confront the mass exodus of people from Blue states to Red States, driven by our party’s failure to address the housing crisis at scale–which if left unaddressed, will spell disaster for us by 2030.”
“I think this role is a great way of, for one, bringing newer voices into the Democratic Party,” Hogg told ABC News. “I just want to be one of several of those voices to help represent young people and also, more than anything, make sure that we’re standing up to the consulting class that increasingly the Democratic Party is representing instead of the working class.”
“We need to realize that we are increasingly the party of sycophants,” he expressed. “We are just surrounding ourselves with people who tell us what we want to hear instead of what we need to hear, we’re increasingly surrounding ourselves with paid political consultants that…are letting what donors say to them guide their talking points.”
Earlier speculation that Hogg was considering a bid for the position was met with cheers from many on the right who saw the potential for the frequently mocked talking point-touter to be Exhibit A in “How to Make the Party Worse.”

While the future for Harris includes potential runs for governor of California and a third try at the White House after twice failing, the departure of Jamie Harrison as chair of the DNC saw a number of candidates seeking to take on that position including current vice chair and chair of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Ken Martin, former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, New York state Sen. James Skoufis and Wisconsin party chair Ben Wikler.
Hogg’s official move was received as a time to “send flowers” to the Democratic Party.
In case you were wondering if the Democratic Party is truly dead – here’s your answer.
