Adam Sandler’s highly anticipated sequel to the 1996 golf comedy “Happy Gilmore” has officially wrapped production, with the star eyeing a July release on Netflix. The film, which reunites Sandler with fan favorites Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, and Ben Stiller, also boasts an eclectic cast of newcomers including Margaret Qualley, Bad Bunny, and NFL star Travis Kelce.
In a recent appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, Sandler spilled the beans on the film’s progress, despite producers’ requests for silence. “They’re going to yell at me no matter what, because they asked me to not do any press,” Sandler quipped.
The actor also confirmed rumors of a surprise cameo by rapper Eminem. “I’ve known Eminem for a long time and he’s a great guy,” Sandler said. “He came in and was funny as hell. I think we hung out a day with Eminem, and we just shot and shot, and it was insane. Said a million things we can use and a million things we’re glad we have on tape.”
While retired pro-golfer John Daly had previously hinted at an April/May 2025 release, Sandler clarified the timeline. “Not July 4th, but we’re trying to get it done in time for July,” he explained.
Ben Stiller’s return as the sadistic retirement home worker Hal L has generated significant buzz, especially after a leaked set photo revealed his character’s updated look. Stiller expressed surprise at the photo’s viral spread, saying, “It was great. I was like, ‘Oh, this will be fun when it comes out,’ but it’s nice to know that people actually care about Hal L.”
The sequel’s plot promises to reignite the rivalry between Happy Gilmore and Shooter McGavin, with both characters training protégés for an upcoming tournament. While the identities of these new characters remain under wraps, speculation suggests Margaret Qualley might play one of the young golfers.
As “Happy Gilmore 2” gears up for its summer release, fans can look forward to a mix of familiar faces, surprising cameos, and potentially another showdown with a crocodile.
