The San Francisco 49ers locker room is boiling over with frustration after linebacker De’Vondre Campbell refused to play during a critical moment in “Thursday Night Football.”

Star players George Kittle and Charvarius Ward didn’t mince words, publicly criticizing their teammate for what they deemed a selfish and unacceptable decision, as reported by TMZ.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that Campbell informed the team during the third quarter that he wouldn’t take the field. This came as the Niners were already shorthanded at linebacker, with Dee Winters and Dre Greenlaw sidelined by injuries.

Campbell’s absence contributed to a dismal 12-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, adding insult to an already disappointing season.

Kittle expressed disbelief over Campbell’s actions, saying during his postgame comments, “I’ve never been around anybody that’s ever done that, and I hope I’m never around anyone that does that again.”

His tone left no room for interpretation—this wasn’t a minor issue but a major breach of trust within the team.

Ward echoed Kittle’s sentiment with even harsher language, calling Campbell’s decision “selfish s***” that “definitely hurt the team.”

The cornerback didn’t hold back, adding, “That was some sucker stuff to me, in my opinion. [He’s] probably gonna get cut soon.”

Campbell’s move has only added to the Niners’ woes. With a 6-8 record, they’re dead last in the NFC West and struggling to salvage their season. Critics are beginning to question whether Shanahan, now in his seventh year as head coach, is losing control of the locker room.

Shanahan dismissed that notion during his postgame press conference. “I haven’t lost anybody,” the coach insisted, despite the turmoil.

Campbell, who signed a one-year deal with San Francisco in the offseason, has officially been cut by the organization. The decision comes as no surprise to anyone following the situation, as his actions on Thursday Night Football made his departure seem inevitable.

His brief stint with the 49ers ends in controversy, leaving little doubt about the team’s stance on his refusal to play.

As the 49ers navigate the fallout from this drama, it’s clear that the trust and unity required for a strong locker room have been badly shaken. For a team struggling to find its footing, this latest controversy only deepens the cracks in an already fragile foundation.
