Gene Smith titled his best-selling account of the end of the Wilson presidency When the Cheering Stopped. My paperback copy gives it the subtitle The Strange, Untold Story of the Last Years of Woodrow Wilson!, although part of that was a Bantam Books embellishment. Someday an enterprising historian will do Smith’s number on the Biden presidency. If so, it might include an investigation of Biden’s repeated claims in recent years to have been appointed to West Point (where he allegedly intended to play football). For some reason or other, ProPublica has not looked into these claims.

And for some reason or other, Biden has passed on attending the annual Army-Navy football game during the course of his alleged presidency. Not so President Trump. He attended the game today along with Vice President-elect J.D. Vance, Senator-elect Dave McCormick and his wife Dina, House Speaker Mike Johnson, Secretary of Defense nominee Pete Hegseth, DNI nominee Tulsi Gabbard, Elon Musk, and Daniel Penny. The New York Post story here focuses on Penny and includes several photographs. Fox News dubs Trump’s guests a “powerhouse posse.” You can glimpse a few of them in the box with Trump in the video below. This is more like When the Cheering Started.
