“The View,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg slammed Health and Human Services (HHS) nominee Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for suggesting Americans take the safer option of prioritizing healthy lifestyle choices over weight-loss drugs.

According to Goldberg, Kennedy is fat-shaming fat people, claiming his remarks “encouraging good lifestyle choices” are causing shame among the obese.

During an appearance on CNBC’s “Mad Money” with Jim Cramer, Kennedy advocated for healthy eating and exercise to combat weight gain.

However, Kennedy said that prescribing medication should be a last resort.

Goldberg disagreed.

“This isn’t just about food,” Goldberg said during the segment.

She claimed people are genetically predisposed to being fat, and a healthy lifestyle wouldn’t help.

Then, Goldberg shared her weight-loss journey, revealing she lost close to 300 pounds in less than two years, crediting weight-loss medication Mounjaro for her success.

“You’re setting folks up for shame,” Goldberg added, addressing Kennedy directly.

“Maybe you don’t know you’re doing it, I’m gonna give you the benefit of the doubt. I’m gonna say you don’t know, you don’t realize what you do to people when you say stuff like that because it doesn’t work for everybody.”

The debate also amid rising discussions around weight-loss drugs

GLP-1 inhibitors like Ozempic and Wegovy are becoming widely used for managing obesity,

But such medications are not cheap and are not always covered by insurance for weight-loss purposes.

For instance, Medicare will cover GLP-1 medications only for patients with Type 2 diabetes, but not for weight loss alone.
