Former Jan. 6 Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., said during an interview that if President Joe Biden offered him a preemptive pardon, he would take it.

During a CNN interview, host Jim Acosta asked Thompson about reports that Biden may be issuing preemptive pardons for those who might be targets of the incoming Trump administration.

“The president…….it’s his prerogative,” Thompson said, according to The Hill. “If he offers it, to me or other members of the committee, I think it, I would accept it, but it’s his choice.”

He added that he thought that the staff on the Jan. 6 committee did a great job investigating the riot that took place in 2021.

“We’ve had two years of review by Republican chairpersons,” Thompson said. “They found nothing wrong. We stand by the work of the committee. Our committee did a wonderful job. We shared it with the public, and all the public has to do is to read the report that we filed based on our report.”

President-elect Donald Trump has said in the past that members of the Jan. 6 committee should go to jail.

“Honestly, they should go to jail,” he said during an NBC interview, later stating he would not instruct his law enforcement officials to jail them.
