When I was young, California was weird, but not insane.
You could see the insanity coming, but it seemed a long way away and entirely preventable. And while San Francisco was weirdo heaven, San Diego seemed to be a middle-class bastion of sanity and a delightful community.

The region is still far more conservative in most ways than the rest of California, probably due to the heavy military presence. Republican Darrell Issa represents a district adjacent to the city, so it’s not like the region is filled with flaming progressives.
Yet this happened, and it blows my mind.
All of the members of the Board voted for it aside from the one Republican. https://t.co/iHU86NkLlt

You might expect this in Cook County or even San Francisco, but obviously, my image of San Diego must be revised drastically. No san government would go out of its way to protect violent felons who contribute nothing but misery to the community. Only places like Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco do, right?
Apparently not.
While Eric Adams and a few Democrats have gotten the memo that felons are not exactly model citizens, progressives are determined to sacrifice ordinary Americans to the gods of wokeness come hell or high water.
Actually, perhaps they want hell to come.

I can almost understand activists and even aspiring politicians who hope to capture the farthest left of the progressive base making noises like this, but I naively expect that any person outside the crazed political atmosphere of Deep Blue regions would bow to reality, at least a bit.
The lesson of San Diego is stark: you cannot let progressives even get a foot in the door. A small shift in power has led to a massive swing in policies because progressives’ policies are based on a totalitarian ideology. There is no compromise, no appeal to common sense, no sense of responding to the concerns of ordinary people.
It boils down to exercising power to make as much radical change as possible.
BREAKING: The San Diego County Board of Supervisors just voted 3-1 to enact this policy & become a “Super Sanctuary” county, prohibiting all cooperation with ICE, even on serious crimes like rape, & going further than CA sanctuary state law. Republican @jim_desmond only no vote. https://t.co/P8Tvsw63rh

Presumably, the “thinking” here is that the residents of San Diego County are colonizers who have used their illegitimate power to oppress the downtrodden, and this influx of illegal immigrants is a form of reparations to those oppressed people.
That includes the predators, who, because they are classified as victims, cannot be seen as victimizers. Any power exercised by the majority community of “colonizers” is illegitimate, including all forms of law enforcement against people in victim categories.

If that seems insane to you, it is. Like most insanity, it has an internal logic that cannot be denied or defeated.
Substitute “Terminator” with “Progressive mind virus,” and you won’t be far off in describing it this way:
