If you’re looking for an energy solution might I suggest going to Oxford, UK, where I am sure C.S. Lewis is spinning in his grave fast enough to sustain the entire British electrical grid.
Just what every Lewis and Narnia fanatic is looking for: A new “Rock N’ Roll” take on The Magician’s Nephew.
From ScreenRant:
Pascal’s comment about Gerwig having a ‘very new take on Narnia’ is unsurprising, but the ‘rock and roll’ description is more perplexing. As a beloved children’s fantasy story about young people traveling to a magical world, which also serves as a Christian allegory, ‘rock and roll’ is the last description that would normally be used to describe C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia books or their adaptations. Pascal’s remark teases that Gerwig’s adaptation will go far beyond being a traditional reboot.
Let’s hand the beloved Christian apologist’s most cherished work to the director of the Barbie film.
The woman who did the modern woke-ish Little Women movie is sure to handle Narnia with kid gloves, right?
Pascal is a producer on the first movie and was also a producer on Gerwig’s 2019 adaptation of Little Women. Jason Isaacs, whose involvement in the project is not yet confirmed, indicated that Greta Gerwig’s first Narnia movie will adapt ‘The Magician’s Nephew’ instead of ‘The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.’
The Magician’s Nephew is a fantastical creation story that compares different worlds/universes to show how evil worms its way in and attacks God’s work.
With magic rings, two children hop from world to world and end up in a barren, lifeless world where a great war among prideful sorcerers had brought ruin to their civilization, advanced though it was. The queen of that world had used “the Deplorable Word” to destroy all life on the planet (an illusion to nuclear weapons, which Lewis wrote about). The queen then used the children to escape, jumping into Narnia as God was in the process of creating it.
Charn, the desolate city
‘Son of Adam,’ said Aslan. ‘Are you ready to undo the wrong that you have done to my sweet country of Narnia on the very day of its birth?’
‘Well, I don’t see what I can do,” said Digory. “You see, the Queen ran away and – ‘
‘I asked, are you ready,’ said the Lion.
That queen (who represents Satan) brought sin into Narnia and eventually became the White Witch in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
So to sum up: A children’s book adaptation that parallels the first few chapters of the Bible is all about “Rock N’ Roll.” Mmk.
Let’s not forget that Greta sees her work as “the opposite of the creation myth in Genesis” and wants to strip away “the pre-Victorian morality” of characters.
It’s like putting a rabid vegan in charge of the menu at a steakhouse.
Prove me wrong, Greta! Just make a movie that’s faithful to the book!
