For some reason, at least one idiot has to get themselves arrested during holiday cop events, and it turns out it’s often for shoplifting during “Shop with a Cop” events at Walmart.

Last year, a woman was arrested in a Michigan Walmart during the city’s “Shop with a Cop” event. While she was surrounded by 75 officers, she decided to steal over $700 worth of merchandise. This year, a similar incident happened with a man in Virginia.

A man was arrested at a Chesterfield County Walmart after he attempted to steal more than $1,000 worth of items when over 50 cops were present.

According to the New York Post:

But the overwhelming presence of law enforcement didn’t deter 32-year-old Hector Velazquez Maldonado from trying to make off with nearly $1,400 of merchandise, according to police.

Security footage showed Maldonado trying to hide bulks of items on his person as he attempted to leave the store, according to police.

The officers were notified of a shoplifting in process at the very store they were all stationed at and began scouring the floor for the suspect who they quickly found.

He even parked in front of a bunch of cop cars, so it’s not even like he can justify his stupidity by claiming ignorance. It really seems like he could not have cared less, as proven by the fact he had a felony amount of items in front of dozens of officers.

“As we approached from different directions, he tried to escape out the back of the store where he was apprehended. I think he was stunned,” Lamb told CBS6.

Maybe he’s stunned because this is a common occurrence for him and he never thought he would get caught. However, it takes an objective standard of stupidity to be this brazen.

“We had 30-40 marked patrol cars in the parking lot. When we found his vehicle, it was facing where our cars were parked, so he would have had to see them. It seems it just didn’t matter to him,” Lamb told the station.

The dude parked in front of 40 patrol cars. You really cannot make this level of brainlessness up. And we can almost be certain another idiot will get themselves arrested at a Walmart next year during the local “Shop with a Cop event” because clearly, the world has an endless supply of idiots.
