Former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, who has been nominated for director of national intelligence, is set to become the next Trump cabinet pick to be targeted by the DC smear machine, following the media feeding frenzy around Matt Gaetz, who withdrew from consideration for attorney general, and Pete Hegseth, who just may outlast the storm to become Trump’s secretary of defense.

That’s according to Politico, which proclaimed Monday that “the winds are now shifting” with Gabbard on Capitol Hill to meet with Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Mike Rounds (R-SD) and James Lankford (R-OK). She is slated to meet with other Senate Intelligence Committee Republicans later in the week.

With the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad over the weekend, Politico was quick to pump oxygen into dated claims “about Gabbard’s past sympathies for the brutal dictator.” The left-leaning outlet even quoted Trump-hating Adam Kinzinger, a GOP turncoat who joked about whether Gabbard “will offer Assad safe harbor at her house.”

At the same time, while Gabbard has been relatively quiet while the usual suspects besmirch her character, the outlet reported that she “will begin to press her case in person.”

Gabbard’s allies in Washington suggest she’s ready to do battle with the political smear merchants, and are “cautiously optimistic” that she will hold her own.

“She is very prepared because it’s the same sh*t people have been throwing at her for years,” a Gabbard confidant said Sunday night, according to Politico. “She’s not easily rocked by anything.”

It’s safe to say the deep state will adamantly oppose Gabbard — who they claim is a Russian asset, even though she is currently serving as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve — just as they have Hegseth’s nomination to head up the Pentagon. Gabbard called these allegations “completely despicable” back in 2019 when they surfaced during the Democratic presidential primary, and she was promoted to her current rank two years later.

Right on cue, reliable neocon war hawk John Bolton is attacking Gabbard, telling Politico that she has shown “an inclination to believe the most outrageous propaganda against the United States by some of its strongest enemies.”

Trump transition spokesperson Alexa Henning stressed that Bolton represents an outdated way of thinking.

“John Bolton is irrelevant and him saying he would write in Dick Cheney for president this year should tell you everything you need to know about his disastrous and failed foreign policy instincts of never-ending wars and more American deaths,” Henning said.

Social media users seemed to be encouraged that Gabbard will be going on the offense… here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
