Incoming “border czar” Tom Homan spoke emotionally about the tragic human toll of an unsecured border and blamed President Joe Biden’s administration.

The former acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement director spoke with Dr. Phil McGraw about the stunning statistics from the chaos at the southern U.S. border thanks to Biden’s open-door policies. He also choked back when describing the heart-wrenching effects he has witnessed such as the shocking death of dozens of migrants who were trapped in a hot trailer as they tried to enter the U.S. illegally.

“I’m standing in the back of a trailer with 19 dead people at my feet who baked to death,” he told McGraw as he described what “broke” him.

“All the ones who died were in their underwear trying to get some relief from the heat,” Homan explained.

“When I went to that crime scene and I keyed in on a five-year-old little boy wearing Batman underwear – the same underwear my son had, my five-year-old son,” he continued.

“You think about what that little boy went through, how he suffered. No one should suffer like that, and it broke me because I know it can be fixed. I know it can be prevented. When you have a secure border and people aren’t making that journey, they’re not dying,” he said.

In June 2022, 53 Mexican and Central American migrants were discovered dead in San Antonio, trapped in a locked 18-wheeler where temperatures soared well over 100 degrees. With no ventilation or air conditioning, the tragic death of so many – including pregnant women and small children – left an indelible mark on Homan.

“That incident back in the tractor-trailer, that changed me forever,” he said.

“I’m a tough guy but I had to get help. When you deal with so much tragedy, it wears on you,” he told McGraw. “People want to know why I’m so emotional about this and why I’m so hardcore, because I’m sick and tried of burying children and having women being raped.”

Trump announced Homan as his border czar soon after his stunning election victory last month.

“I’ve known Tom for a long time, and there is nobody better at policing and controlling our Borders,” the incoming president wrote on Truth Social. “Likewise, Tom Homan will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin. Congratulations to Tom. I have no doubt he will do a fantastic, and long awaited for, job.”

Homan referred to Trump as “the greatest president in my lifetime,” praise he has often expressed as he recounted to McGraw how he has served under six U.S. presidents.

He again recounted the details of tragic encounters during the sit-down interview on “Dr. Phil Primetime.”

“I wake up every day pissed off with what this administration did to the most secure border in my lifetime,” he said. “But thankfully we got President Trump coming back and we’re going to secure the border once again and save lives.”
