Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, who won three Super Bowls under the leadership of former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, seem skeptical about his ability to navigate the college game.

Brady and Gronkowski joined former wide receiver Julian Edelman, who was also part of those three particular Super Bowl-winning teams. They discussed reports that Belichick had interviewed for a job on the sidelines with North Carolina.

Belichick, who parted ways with the Patriots after a storied career that included six Super Bowl victories overall, is now seemingly exploring opportunities beyond the NFL.

Brady, however, offered a rather blunt take about Belichick’s handling of the college athlete during his appearance on Fox NFL Sunday.

“There’s a lot of things he can do, and obviously he’s tremendous, and even showing his personality,” Brady analyzed. “But getting out there on the recruiting trail and dealing with all these college kids.”

Bill Belichick, College Coach Material?

It’s certainly something we here at Bounding Into Sports addressed regarding the reports that Belichick had interviewed for a college coaching job.

Recruiting, managing player eligibility, and navigating the complexities of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals is paramount.

After all, player behavior and the NIL program caused one of the all-time college coaching greats, Nick Saban, to walk away.

Would Belichick, as a coach of 18-year-olds, be able to manage the many pitfalls of the college game? Brady and Gronk are having trouble visualizing Belichick with his recruiting cap on, dealing with parents and entitled kids.

Gronkowski Skeptical As Well

Brady even played out a hypothetical scenario in which Belichick had to recruit a young college player.

“‘Listen, do you really want to come here?’” Brady said, acting as Belichick. “’I mean, we don’t really want you anyway, but I guess you could come, we’ll figure out if you play.’”

Gronkowski also seemed skeptical that coach Bill Belichick would be able to recruit a star player if he were named head coach of a college team.

“Can you imagine NIL, and all that nonsense?” Gronkowski wondered aloud.

Edelman concurred, asking, “Can you imagine Bill on a couch recruiting an 18-year-old?”

It seems everybody is in agreement. Belichick belongs on the sidelines of an NFL team, not in the NCAA.
