Meta Inc. has donated $1 million to President-elect Donald Trump’s inaugural fund, in a break from past precedent that marks CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s latest attempt to get back in Trump’s good graces, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.
Zuckerberg, who has had a rocky relationship with Trump in the past, met the former president at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach last month. He has also met with incoming members of Trump’s newest administration, including Trump’s nominee for Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The billionaire CEO did not donate to President Joe Biden’s inaugural fund in 2021, or Trump’s fund in 2017, according to public records. But Zuckerberg has donated to congressional races in both parties in the past. He also donated hundreds of millions of dollars, also known as “Zuckerbucks,” to help election infrastructure in 2020.
Trump in October said that he felt better about the Facebook founder, because he stayed out of the 2024 election and called the former president following the July 13 assassination attempt against Trump.
Zuckerberg has likewise indicated that he is optimistic about a Trump presidency, according to the Wall Street Journal, and told the House in August that his goal is to remain neutral in politics.
Trump is set to be inaugurated on Jan. 20, 2025.
